Biography

Richard Sabon

Richard Sabon (b.2001) is a multi-instrumentalist composer, performer & piano teacher. He combines elements of minimalist techno, contemporary classical, jazz & surrealism in his music to create a unique stylistic blend of sometimes ambient, sometimes dancey live electronic music suited for contemplative mornings in record shops just as well as in the dark community-forward venues of his hometown: Portland, OR.

Vulnerable melodies & aggressive basses from his main instrument, the ondes Martenot, are the backbone of his performances while Dali-esque soundscapes & glasswork piano arrangements are punctuated by living, breathing drum machines manifest below.

He contributes ondes Martenot & electronics various in Portland avant-garde duo Negative Concord, plays keyboards in the anthemesque live outfit for queer Portland icon Shawna Pair, & plays bass for Portland's staple alternative trio Rum River Cult.

c.2022 he joined Portland Music Collective to teach piano and composition.

His debut album NO ONE MAKES IT OUT released 1 May 2025, with plans for an expanded release in 2026 with recorded versions of his fully live ambient rearrangements performed at Hidden Notes 2025, as well as several new pieces intended for a full-length sophomore album.
