Richard Sabon (b.2001) is a multi-instrumentalist composer, performer & piano teacher. He combines elements of minimalist techno, contemporary classical, jazz & surrealism in his music to create a unique stylistic blend of sometimes ambient, sometimes dancey live electronic music suited for contemplative mornings in record shops just as well as in the dark community-forward venues of his hometown: Portland, OR.
His performances feature layerings of glasswork piano arrangements & propulsive synth arpeggios, on top of which soar vulnerable melodies & aggresive basses from his main instrument--the ondes Martenot.
September 2024 saw his first independent record release, NO ONE MAKES IT OUT which was rearranged & added upon for a fully live & more ambient performance for the 2025 Hidden Notes festival in Stroud, UK. Years prior to "NO ONE MAKES IT OUT," he has been working with saxophonist Patrick McCulley in dark-ambient jazz duo Negative Concord, playing keyboards for the anthemesque live outfit of queer pop icon Shawna Pair & has recently started playing bass in the latest iteration of alternative trio Rum River Cult.
c. 2022 He began offering private piano instruction with Portland Music Collective.
As of this writing, I'm working on producing the rearrangements made for Hidden Notes for an expanded edition of "NO ONE MAKES IT OUT," with some new tracks as well. Those new ones will also be on a second full length record that's also on the way. Negative Concord is also in the midst of producing our sophomore record which I am very excited about.
